  • Room Leader – Early Years Young Toddlers 

    Location: Tooting, SW17 0PG

    Salary: Up to £32k (dependent upon experience)

    Reports to: Nursery Manager

    Qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care, or equivalent.

    Job Purpose

    To support the effective day-to-day running of the nursery room, ensuring children receive a high standard of care, education and support. The Room Leader will create a safe, stimulating and engaging environment that promotes children’s learning, development and wellbeing.The successful candidate will lead and support the room team, implement daily routines and activities, and work closely with the Nursery Manager to maintain high standards of care, safeguarding and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and relevant legislation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities in collaboration with the Nursery Manager, supporting children’s learning and development.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework and apply its requirements throughout the working day.
    • Monitor children’s progress and maintain accurate records of their development.
    • Support the daily management of the nursery, ensuring the environment remains safe, secure, clean and well organised.
    • Lead, motivate and support the room team, promoting positive working relationships and high standards of practice.
    • Ensure suitable equipment, resources and activities are available to meet children’s individual needs and interests.
    • Recognise and report concerns regarding children’s welfare, development or safeguarding to the appropriate member of the management team.
    • Support colleagues across the nursery as required, including assisting with daily routines, mealtimes and general housekeeping.
    • Assist with the training, induction and mentoring of nursery assistants and students, acting as a positive role model.
    • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, encouraging their involvement in children’s learning and development.
    • Maintain confidentiality and comply with nursery policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and safeguarding standards.
    • Support the Nursery Manager with daily operations and assist with management responsibilities in their absence, where required.
    • Participate in relevant training, meetings and nursery events to support professional development.
    • Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the Nursery Manager.
    • Childcare and Safeguarding Responsibilities
    • Support children with personal care, including feeding, toileting and dressing, while promoting their independence and dignity.
    • Create a positive, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere during mealtimes.
    • Monitor children’s health and wellbeing, recognising signs of illness, possible neglect or unexplained injuries, and reporting concerns in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
    • Follow the nursery’s procedures for children’s arrival and collection to ensure their safety.
    • Record accidents and incidents accurately, notify the appropriate manager and ensure parents or carers are informed in line with nursery procedures.
    • Report any concerns relating to children’s safety, welfare or wellbeing promptly to the appropriate member of the management team.
    • Ensure children’s individual needs are met and that they are cared for in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.

    Essential Requirements

    • A Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Care, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
    • Knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures.
    • Experience supporting children’s learning, development and daily care within an early years setting.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • The ability to lead, motivate and support colleagues.
    • A caring, reliable and flexible approach to work.
    • A commitment to providing high-quality childcare and maintaining children’s safety and wellbeing.
