Reports to: Room Leader
Qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care, or equivalent.
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality childcare in a safe, caring and stimulating environment, supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing through age-appropriate activities and daily routines.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued and supported.
- Work collaboratively with the nursery team, contributing ideas and maintaining a professional approach.
- Support children with daily routines, including feeding, toileting, dressing and sleep times.
- Plan and deliver engaging activities that reflect children’s interests and support their development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including observations, activity planning, sleep records and nappy charts.
- Monitor children’s progress and work closely with the Room Leader to support developmental assessments and individual learning needs.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, encouraging children’s independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Understand the needs of your key children and support their transitions between rooms.
- Communicate professionally and positively with parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, fire safety and confidentiality procedures at all times.
- Recognise and report concerns about children’s health, welfare or safety, including signs of illness, neglect or unexplained injuries.
- Record accidents and incidents accurately, report them to the appropriate manager and ensure parents are informed in accordance with nursery procedures.
- Follow the nursery’s arrival and collection procedures to ensure children’s safety.
- Support colleagues across different rooms when required, helping to maintain consistent standards of care.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, parent events and open days as required.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Room Leader or management team.
Essential Requirements
- A Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Care, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures.
- A caring, patient and enthusiastic approach to working with children.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to support children’s individual learning and developmental needs.
- A commitment to providing safe, inclusive and high-quality childcare.
