Job Description

  • After School Club Leader

    We're looking for an enthusiastic and confident leader, for a role as an After School Club Leader 

    Working as part of the management team to lead the day to day organisation of the After School Club, you will be responsible for providing high standards of care and play opportunities for children between the ages of 4-11 years old in a safe and secure environment.

    The school provides out of school club activities, led by school based staff, for children attending the primary school. It is very popular and usually has around 16 - 20 children in attendance. The After School Club leader will have scope to incorporate sports, arts and crafts, music and drama, and other imaginative and engaging experiences for the children. They are looking for someone with lots of enthusiasm and drive to lead the club. The school aim to create an after school club that is a place for the children to rest after a busy day, take part in fun activities, and socialise with friends in a non-formal school environment. Being part of the school team you will build close relationships with school staff and get to know the children's needs and interests to help provide high levels of care. Opportunities for the After School Club leader to work in the morning Breakfast Club or during their Holiday Club can also be offered, but is not essential to the role if preferred to take as an After School only position.  

    The After School Club Leader will:

    • Achieve high standards of care and play opportunities.
    • Maintain compliance of all regulatory requirements stated in the Early Years Foundation Stage and by Ofsted.
    • Foster positive working relationships with staff members, outside professionals, parents and carers.
    • Nurturing happy, supported and engaged children.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • To lead the day to day organisation of the After School Club
    • Pass on correspondence to teachers from parents/carers and vice versa
    • Create a safe, welcoming and friendly environment delivering high quality creative play opportunities embracing each child's individual needs, unique qualities and personalities.
    • Liaise with the school with regard to the needs of the children who attend the After School Club.
    • Liaise with parents to encourage parental involvement and support through the development of effective working relationships, providing professional and relevant feedback to parents/carers about their child.
    • Provide care, play opportunities and activities in a homely and nurturing environment, with regard to the individual development needs of the children and age ranges of children.
    • Fully support inclusive practice and ensure that all children can be involved in the activities offered if they wish.
    • Consult and liaise with the children and involve them in the planning of activities.
    • Support all children, as well as parents/carers with transition periods (such as starting school, attending the setting for the first time and ongoing school/club/home relationships)
    • Ensure After School Club evaluation is completed and accurately maintained.
    • Ensure appropriate planning is in place to maintain the required standards, ensuring that the relevant equipment and resources are available, consulting with the School when necessary.
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of the service, including staff development.
    • Supervise the children throughout the session ensuring that ratios are adhered to at all times.
    • Be an effective role-model for children and practitioners at all times.
    • Ensure that the Nursery policy regarding supervision of children on outings and visits' is implemented during all visits and trips.
    • Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff members understand and follow Safeguarding Procedures.
    • Support all children by promoting positive strategies for unwanted behaviour, in line with the schools positive Behaviour Policy
    • Support all children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and implement Personal Education Plans.
    • To ensure the After School Club offers a high quality, inclusive environment which meets the needs of all children, regardless of social, culture, religion or beliefs.
    • Work alongside the School to ensure that multi-cultural events are being celebrated and implemented into the planning.
    • Develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with relevant Local Authority Advisors, outside agencies and regulatory bodies for support and guidance.


    Working Hours:
    Min 12.5 hours a week (Monday-Friday, 3pm-5.30pm) term time only (39 weeks a year) plus time for paperwork. There are opportunities to complete additional hours  within breakfast club, and in holidays if this is something the applicant would like - please let us know on your application

    Pay
    Pay scale E6-E8 £25,183-£25,992 (pro rata per annum).

    Essential Qualifications and Experience:
    Level 3 Qualification in Childcare or Playwork, a Teaching Qualification, or equivalent. 
    Experience of working with 4-11 year olds in a play environment.
