Job Description

  • To support the Senior Nursery Management Team in providing professional leadership and management of the nursery, ensuring that all children under two years old have access to a high-quality, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum. The role involves demonstrating leadership by delivering a high-quality learning experience and supporting practitioners in enhancing their knowledge and understanding of early childhood development.

    Support all nursery staff in their roles.

    Foster positive partnerships with staff, parents, and carers.

    Maintain financial targets related to revenue and costs.

    Key Responsibilities

    Adhere to and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

    Promote high standards of quality within the nursery, including practice, environment, and resources, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

    Lead and support staff in EYFS implementation, including planning and evaluation of learning experiences.

    Ensure effective planning and assessment are in place and maintained accurately by all staff.

    Act as a role model, conducting peer observations and providing constructive feedback to practitioners.

    Observe, motivate, and direct practitioners to ensure high-quality provision and continuous professional development.

    Support colleagues in fostering positive relationships with parents and incorporating their input into children’s development.

    Monitor and document children's progress, using insights to inform and enhance curriculum planning and provision.

    Enhance the quality and effectiveness of the preschool room through continuous improvement initiatives.

    Guide and mentor practitioners, providing training and professional development opportunities.

    Take responsibility for personal professional development by attending relevant training sessions.

    Develop and manage resources to enrich the learning environment.

    Act as a key person for a group of children, facilitating smooth transitions within the nursery and to external settings.

    Ensure inclusivity in service provision and practice, catering to the needs of all children and families.

    Support colleagues in assessing and assisting children with additional needs.

    Foster and maintain positive relationships with external professionals and agencies.

    Represent the nursery professionally, maintaining its integrity and engaging in constructive feedback exchanges.

    Attend senior management meetings and monthly staff meetings.

    Promote best practices regarding special educational needs and inclusion.

    Implement and oversee an effective key person system.

    Ensure all children are safe and that staff confidently follow safeguarding procedures.

    Actively promote the nursery to current and prospective parents/customers, as well as within the wider community.

    Enforce health and safety policies, ensuring all staff receive adequate training.

    Be knowledgeable about emergency and security procedures.

    Assist the Nursery Management Team in ensuring correct staff deployment at all times.

    Support the induction, training, and appraisal of staff to uphold high childcare standards.

    Identify and address staff training needs through supervisions and appraisals.

    Help resolve complaints and concerns promptly and effectively.

    Assist in facilitating regulatory inspections and implementing any recommendations.

    Undertake additional duties as required by the Nursery Management Team.

    Assume additional management responsibilities when necessary.
