Job Description

  • Job Title: Early Years Educator (Nursery Practitioner)
    Location: PE7
    Working Hours: Term Time, 17.5 Hours per week
    Salary: £9,248.75 Annually
    Start Date: ASAP

    Qualifications: Ideally Level 3, but open to Level 2 with experience

    Job Purpose:
    To be a proactive member of the nursery team, providing a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children are supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. The role involves working closely with the Nursery Management team to deliver high-quality care and education in line with policies and procedures.

    Main Duties:
    Working with Children:
    Act as a key person for a group of children, supporting their learning and development.
    Plan stimulating and age-appropriate play and learning activities, both indoors and outdoors.
    Conduct observations to assess children’s development, health, and well-being, maintaining accurate records via the nursery management system.
    Supervise children, assessing risk to ensure a safe environment.
    Foster positive relationships with parents and carers, ensuring regular communication about their child’s progress.
    Support children with special educational needs or disabilities, ensuring their individual needs are met.
    Assist with snack preparation, taking into account dietary and allergy requirements.

    Operational:
    Contribute to the daily running of the room and planning of activities.
    Adhere to policies and procedures relevant to the safe running of the setting.
    Follow safeguarding procedures to ensure children’s welfare and safety.
    Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents, and progress.
    Share data on children’s progress and assist in planning activities and curriculum delivery.
    Attend meetings with parents/carers to discuss child progress.
    Implement the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

    Team Working:
    Develop your role within the team, aligning with the Charity’s values and performance standards.
    Offer support and guidance to volunteers, students, and work experience pupils.
    Participate in regular supervisions, staff meetings, and training events.
    Provide cover within the setting as needed and assist in different rooms when required.
    Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR regulations.

    Policies and Procedures:
    Comply with all organizational policies and procedures, including child protection, health & safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection.

    Essential Criteria:
    Sufficient understanding of English to ensure the well-being of children (as per EYFS).
    Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this.
    Current experience in the childcare and early years sector.
    Knowledge of child development, safeguarding procedures, and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
    Ability to conduct observations and assessments following EYFS guidelines.
    Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
    Ability to work effectively in a team and engage positively with parents, carers, and external agencies.
    Understanding of the impact of discriminatory experiences on children and commitment to providing a positive, inclusive environment.
    Friendly, flexible approach, with a commitment to young children and families.

    Desirable Criteria:
    Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent) as defined by the DfE.
    Experience or knowledge of the voluntary sector.
