Job Description

  • A nursery in Lenton are looking for a Third in Charge to join their team.

    40 hours per week (between the times of 730am to 6pm)

    Annual salary is £26,269.00

    31 days holiday including bank holidays


    Job Description:

    1. To be directly responsible to the Nursery Manager offering support in all matters concerning the Nursery.

    2. In the absence of the Nursery Manager and named Deputy Manager the Third in Charge will take the role of the named Deputy Manager for the nursery during this time.

    3. To do whatever is acceptable within the terms and conditions of your employment to assist the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager to ensure Nursery runs smoothly and efficiently.

    4. To support the Management Team in the implementation of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage including any revisions to the guidance.

    5. To work in accordance with the philosophy of the Directors, Management Team, local and national policy in meeting all safeguarding and welfare requirements supporting the creation of a stable, happy, safe and secure environment for staff, trainees, volunteers, children, parents and visitors whilst on the premises.

    6. To work with the Management team and the staff to ensure all legal requirements are met to safeguard and protect children including promotion of British Values and the Prevent Duty. Working appropriately in partnership with Social Care and other agencies when necessary.

    7. To implement and adhere to the settings policies and procedures in particular: Confidentiality, GDPR, Safeguarding and Child Protection, Health and Safety, Inclusion & Equality, SEND, Behaviour, Complaints. Making minor decisions when necessary based on the policies and procedures of the nursery and the Nursery Managers beliefs and ethos.

    8. To undertake a lead role or take guidance/support from other staff with lead named roles as appropriate e.g. SENCO as defined by Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted to undertake these roles effectively.

    9. To support the Management team to ensure all registers monitoring children’s and staffs attendance/deployment are accurate. The correct age banding of children is implemented and sustainable, ensuring the needs of each child are met. Ofsted requirements must be adhered to at all times.

    10. To support the induction for all staff /trainees/volunteers and that they are allocated a mentor and ensure they are monitored and supported to undertake their role safely and fully understand the need to respect confidentiality at all times.

    11. Work with the management team to implement procedures to fully support the management of staff performance and professional development.

    12. To adhere to all contractual agreements including disciplinary procedures and seek advice from the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager and/or Head Office/Area Manager/Directors before taking any action.

    13. To ensure that emotional stress is minimised by supporting the Management team in creating a

    welcoming, secure and ordered environment. Ensuring that every effort is made to develop and maintain good relationships with staff including showing respect, support and empathy. No abusive behaviour, bullying, discrimination, humiliation or harassment will be tolerated. Including paying full regard to privacy of personal issues.

    14. To support the Management team to promote the nursery and contribute to the overall marketing of the nursery.

    15. To follow the Management Teams approach in supporting a self-reflective team. Including taking an active role in contributing and supporting others to comment on nursery and room Improvement Plans. This should also include contributions from parents and children gathered via consultation opportunities e.g. questionnaires.

    16. To attend and contribute at team meetings. Positively engage in supervision and annual Professional Development Reviews/Appraisals, identifying training and development opportunities in order to undertake the role of 3rd in charge/Room Leader effectively. All CPD including experiences of peer observations must be recorded and evaluated demonstrating the impact on practice.

    17. With support, undertaking the role of named key worker responsible for a ‘child in need’ or where concerns are raised, engage in regular focused supervision and opportunities to share concerns and progress for the child. Ensuring appropriate information sharing is actioned whilst respecting levels of confidentiality.

    18. To ensure all absence is given prior approval and fair notice is provided. To cover at another nursery within the town/city you are based for short term absences.

    19. To delegate tasks and responsibilities to staff while maintaining good working relationships and working effectively as a part of a team - leading by example without favouritism or discrimination.

    20. To support the Management team in the day to day running of the Nursery including staffing-recording sickness and annual leave, health and safety- including fire drills in accordance with fire authority recommendations and recorded accurately, building management and maintenance.

    21. To maintain up to date and accurate accident / incident books. Reporting any incident involving the need for medical attention to the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager whilst ensuring that all records and reports are clear, factual and signed.

    22. To ensure all hygiene standards are maintained and food is prepared and served in a clean and satisfactory manner. Taking care to ensure the children all have an opportunity to self-serve and help themselves to drinks throughout the day.

    23. To ensure that the Nursery throughout achieves high levels of cleanliness.
