A nursery in Gamston are looking for a Deputy Manager to join their team.
40 hours per week (between the times of 730am to 6pm)
Annual salary is £28,601 (for somebody with management experience)
34 days holiday including bank holidays
Job Description:
1. To be directly responsible to the Nursery Manager, Area Manager and Directors offering support in all matters concerning the Nursery.
2. To do whatever is acceptable within the terms and conditions of your employment to support the Nursery Manager to ensure that the Nursery runs smoothly and efficiently, keeping all office records up to date and passing all relevant correspondence onto the Head Office/Directors.
3. To support the Nursery Manager in the implementation of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage including any revisions to the guidance. Making available all documentation at the request of the Area Manager, Ofsted or any other interested party.
4. To work in accordance with the philosophy of the Directors, Management Team, local and national policy in meeting all safeguarding and welfare requirements creating a stable, happy, safe and secure environment for staff, trainees, volunteers, children, parents and visitors whilst on the premises.
5. To support the Nursery Manager in ensuring all legal requirements are met to safeguard and protect children including COVID-19 systems of control, promotion of British Values and The Prevent Duty. Working appropriately in partnership with Social Care and other agencies when necessary.
6. To implement, adhere to and base all decisions made using the settings policies and procedures in particular: Confidentiality, GDPR, Safeguarding & Child Protection, Health and Safety, Inclusion & Equality, SEND, Behaviour, Complaints. Supporting the Nursery Manager in ensuring all are kept up to date and in line with local and national government recommendations. Providing evidence that all staff, parents/carers, trainees and volunteers are aware of and fully understand all nursery policies.
7. To undertake lead roles where appropriate and ensure all named lead roles as defined by Ofsted are supported to undertake these roles effectively.
8. To support the Nursery Manager in ensuring all registers monitoring children’s and staffs attendance/deployment are accurate. The correct age banding of children is implemented and sustainable, ensuring the needs of each child are met. Such timetables are to be made available upon request to the Area Manager. Ofsted requirements must be adhered to at all times.
9. Ensure all staff hold a current DBS check and that no reference requests are actioned for staff past or present without prior approval from Head Office.
10. To ensure all staff /trainees/volunteers are given an intensive induction are allocated a mentor and ensure employees are monitored and fully supported to undertake their role safely and effectively respecting the need for confidentiality.
11. Work alongside the Nursery Manager to implement procedures to fully support the management of staff performance and professional development.
12. To adhere to all contractual agreements including disciplinary procedures and seek advice from
Nursery Manager/Head Office/Area Manager/Directors before taking any action.
13. To ensure that emotional stress is minimised by creating a welcoming, secure and ordered environment. Ensuring that every effort is made to develop and maintain good relationships with staff including showing respect, support and empathy. No abusive behaviour, bullying, discrimination, humiliation or harassment will be tolerated. Including paying full regard to privacy of personal issues.
14. Support the Nursery Manager to monitor and report on the financial procedures within the nursery e.g. banking monies, monitoring of petty cash, billing, wages, general expenditure, accurate monthly invoicing for parents including the addition of extra sessions taken, collection of nursery fees, monitoring of free entitlement places and grant funding.
15. To support the Nursery Manager to keep and maintain an inventory of equipment with reports of any action taken with regard to the equipment. These records must be made available to the Directors on request.
16. Work in partnership with the Nursery Manager to promote the nursery and contribute to the overall marketing of the nursery.
17. To support the Nursery Manager in supporting a self-reflective team who contribute fully to Nursery and Room Improvement Plans. This should also include contributions from parents and children gathered via consultation opportunities e.g. questionnaires.
18. To support the Nursery Manager in the delivery of regular team meetings with full and accurate minutes taken and when appropriate acting as chair. Support and receive regular scheduled supervision, training and contribute to and support Professional Development Reviews. Supporting the Nursery Manager to produce an annual central nursery training plan/record to include all CPD planned and undertaken. All CPD (including peer observations) is recorded individually for each staff member and evaluated demonstrating the impact on their practice.
19. To ensure all named key workers responsible for a ‘child in need’ or where concerns are raised, receive regular focused supervision and opportunities to share concerns and progress. Ensuring appropriate information sharing is actioned whilst respecting levels of confidentiality.
20. To ensure all absence is given prior approval and fair notice is provided. To provide support to other managers, attend management board meetings and cover at another nursery within the town/city you are based for short term absences.
21. To delegate tasks and responsibilities to the staff while maintaining good working relationships and working effectively as a part of a team - leading by example without favouritism or discrimination. Supporting the process of succession planning in order to develop leaders within your team.
22. To take full responsibility for the day to day management of the Nursery including staffing-recording sickness and annual leave, health and safety- including fire drills in accordance with fire authority recommendations and recorded accurately, building management and maintenance.
23. To maintain an up to date and accurate accident / incident book. To report any incident involving the need for medical attention to the Area Manager / Directors whilst ensuring that all records and reports are collected, signed and analysed to identify any patterns forming.
24. To ensure that the kitchen staff maintain all hygiene standards, the menu supports healthy eating and food is prepared and served in a clean and satisfactory manner.
25. To ensure that the Nursery throughout achieves high levels of cleanliness.
